Text Cleanup & Dictionary
Wispen tidies up what you say before it's saved or inserted, and learns the names and terms you use. Everything on this page runs on your device.
Cleanup settings
Go to Settings › Text Cleanup. Every setting is on by default.
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Clean Up Dictation | Turns all of the cleanup below on or off. |
| Remove Filler Words | Removes "um", "uh", "you know" and similar. |
| Remove Stutters | Removes repeated words and false starts. |
| Fix Contractions | "dont" becomes "don't", "im" becomes "I'm". |
| Capitalize Sentences | Starts each sentence with a capital letter. |
| Remove Sound Markers | Removes markers like "[typing]" and "(silence)". |
| Mid-Sentence Corrections | "Meet at 2, actually 3" becomes "Meet at 3". |
Filler removal, contractions and corrections work in English only. Your dictionary replacements and snippets always apply, even with cleanup off.
Mid-sentence corrections
Correct yourself out loud with a cue word set off by a comma or pause: "actually", "no wait", "make that", "or rather", "I meant" or "correction", followed by a short replacement at the end of the sentence. For example, "500 dollars, no wait 600 dollars" becomes "600 dollars".
Recognition settings
Also on the Text Cleanup page:
| Setting | What it does |
|---|---|
| Spoken Punctuation | Say "period", "comma" or "new line" to type them. See Voice Commands. |
| Spell Names on Screen | Looks for names near where you're dictating so they're spelled the way they already appear. On iPhone and iPad, the Wispen Keyboard reads the text around the cursor. On the Mac, Wispen reads the window you're dictating into, such as an email thread or a chat, and never reads password fields. The text stays on your device and is used only for that dictation. |
| Learn From My Edits | When you fix a misheard name in a note, Wispen offers to add it to your dictionary. |
Dictionary
Open the dictionary from Settings › Speech Models › Words & Replacements › Edit. It has three sections.
Vocabulary
Names, jargon and acronyms, separated by commas. For example: "Siobhan, Kubernetes, SwiftUI, Acme Corp". Wispen listens for them and spells them exactly as written. Vocabulary works with every speech model and with the Wispen Keyboard.
Replacements
Fix words the recognizer keeps getting wrong. Tap Add Replacement, enter what it's Heard as… and what to Write as…. Whenever the left side appears in a dictation, it's replaced with the right side. Matches are whole words and ignore case.
Snippets
Say a short phrase to insert longer text, like your email signature, an address or a link. Tap Add Snippet, enter When I say… and Insert this text. Longer triggers win over shorter ones, so "my work email" is matched before "my email".
To remove a replacement or snippet, tap the minus button next to it.
Learning from your edits
With Learn From My Edits on, when you correct a word in a note and pause typing, a banner asks: Add "[word]" to your dictionary? Tap Add and Wispen spells it that way from now on. If the fix replaced a misheard word, Wispen also adds a replacement so the misheard version is fixed automatically. Tap the × to dismiss the suggestion.
Transcript Cleanup with S1-mini
For English dictation, you can download a small cleanup model, S1-mini by Superwhisper, that rewrites a finished transcript as clean written text: fillers removed, self-corrections resolved, and numbers, dates and punctuation written properly. See Speech Models.
