Apple Health & Calendar
Afternoon can connect to Apple Health and to the calendars on your iPhone. Both are optional and both are set up in Settings under Integrations. Each row shows Connected or Not Connected.
Apple Health
When a habit is linked to Apple Health, completing it writes an entry to the Health app.
Connect
- Open the menu, tap Settings, then tap Apple Health.
- Tap Connect Apple Health.
- In the Health permission screen, choose what to allow, then tap Allow.
Afternoon asks to read water, mindful minutes, workouts, sleep, steps and heart rate, and to write water and mindful minutes. It shows as connected once you allow it to write water.
Link habits
Once connected, the Health Sync screen lists Detected Health Habits: habits whose names suggest a Health category, such as "Drink Water" or "Meditate". Turn on Show All Habits to list every habit.
- Turn on the switch next to a habit. Afternoon picks the suggested category.
- To change it, tap the category next to Sync As and choose another.
Categories are Water Intake, Mindfulness, Workouts, Sleep, Steps and Heart Rate.
What gets written
When you check off a linked habit, Afternoon writes the progress logged for that day:
| Category | Written to Health as |
|---|---|
| Water Intake | Water, with the logged amount in millilitres |
| Mindfulness | A mindful session, with the logged amount in minutes |
Only these two categories write data. Choosing Workouts, Sleep, Steps or Heart Rate doesn't add anything to Health. Habits without a goal have no logged amount, so set a goal on a habit you want to sync. See Goals.
Disconnect
On the Health Sync screen, tap Disconnect Apple Health. This turns off syncing for every habit. Entries already written stay in the Health app. To remove Afternoon's access completely, open the Health app, tap your profile picture, then Apps and Afternoon.
Calendar
With calendar access, your events appear alongside your habits and tasks.
Connect
- Open the menu, tap Settings, then tap Calendar.
- Tap Enable Calendar Access and allow access when iOS asks.
What you get
- Events for the day appear on the All tab and in the Planner, with their times and location.
- Double tap an event on the All tab to open it in the system event editor.
- Add a new event with Quick Add by choosing the calendar event type. The event editor opens with a one-hour event filled in, and you save it to your default calendar.
Afternoon reads events from all your calendars on the device each time it shows a day. It doesn't keep its own copy of your events.
Disconnect
On the Calendar screen, tap Disconnect Calendar. Events stop appearing in Afternoon. To remove access completely, go to the iOS Settings app, then Apps, Afternoon, Calendars.
