A few more details:

  • Q swaps between your two guns. From the blade, it goes back to the last gun you used.
  • The mouse wheel steps through all three slots: down goes primary, secondary, blade, and up goes back.
  • When you click into the game, your browser locks the mouse pointer to it so you can aim. Press Esc to get the pointer back. If the pointer isn't locked, you'll see Click to play.
  • In the lobby, press 1, 2 or 3 to vote for a map.
  • While typing in chat, press Tab to switch between Everyone, Team and replying to a private message.

Rebind keys

  1. Go to Settings and scroll to Controls. You can also open Settings from the in-match menu.
  2. Click the key next to an action. It shows "Press a key…".
  3. Press the new key. You can also use the middle mouse button or the side mouse buttons. Press Esc to cancel.

If the key is already used by another action, the two actions swap keys. Choose Reset controls to put every key back to its default.

Fire, aim, the mouse wheel, Esc and the Firing Range's B key can't be changed. Your key bindings are saved to your account.

Controller

Salvo supports game controllers through your browser, using the standard (Xbox-style) layout. Plug one in at any time. You'll see "Controller connected" in a match.

Feign death, chat and the Outbreak-only actions aren't on the controller. The on-screen hints switch to controller buttons while you're using one.

Controller settings, such as Look sensitivity, Stick deadzone and Response curve, are in Settings under Controller. See Settings.

Touch controls

Salvo works on phones and tablets with touch controls. Turn your phone sideways: Salvo only plays in landscape. When you join a match, the game goes full screen where your browser allows it.

  • Move: put your left thumb down anywhere on the left side and drag. Push to the edge of the stick, mostly forward, to sprint.
  • Look: drag anywhere on the right side.

Touch controls show on phones and tablets, or after you touch the screen in a match. A mouse click hides them again on a touchscreen laptop. To change this, see Settings. You can also use a controller with a phone or tablet.

Feign death, inspect, chat and picking a weapon slot directly aren't available with touch controls. The touch layout can't be changed, and key rebinding is hidden on touch devices.

Movement

MoveHow it works
Run4 m/s, faster or slower depending on the weapon in your hand
Sprint36% faster than running. Hold forward. You can't fire while sprinting, and your weapon takes a moment to come back up.
CrouchHalf speed. Tightens your spread.
JumpAbout 1.2 m high
ClimbHold forward and press jump facing a ledge between 1 and 2.7 m above your feet. Mid-jump, you can grab ledges up to 1.7 m. You can climb through windows.
VaultJump at a thin wall up to 1.3 m high to go over it
Feign deathDrop to the ground as if you'd been killed. Others see you as dead and bots ignore you, but you can still be hurt. Move or jump to get up, which takes 0.5 seconds. Not in Zombies.

There's no fall damage, but falling out of the map kills you.

Stamina

Sprinting, jumping and climbing use stamina, shown as a bar on the HUD.

  • With nothing in your hands, a full bar lasts 8 seconds of sprinting. The heavier the weapon in your hand, the faster it drains.
  • A jump costs 7% of the bar and a climb 10%, more with a heavy weapon.
  • Stamina starts coming back 0.9 seconds after you stop, and refills from empty in 4.5 seconds.
  • If you run it dry you're Winded: you can't sprint, jump or climb until it's back to 35%.

In Zombies there's no stamina, and weapon weight doesn't slow you down.

The HUD also shows the weight of the weapon in your hand. Heavier weapons speed up more slowly, drain stamina faster and climb more slowly. See Weapons for each weapon's weight.

Aiming

You can't aim down sights while sprinting, climbing, reloading, swinging a blade, throwing a grenade or holding your blade. To aim with one click instead of holding the button, turn on Toggle aim in Settings.
