Ratings & Rankings

App Store Connect shows ratings one storefront at a time and doesn't show chart positions at all. OpenConnect checks all 175 App Store storefronts for both, using Apple's public App Store data. This part needs no API key role.

What Is Checked

Ratings. For each storefront, OpenConnect looks up all your apps at once and saves:

  • the average rating and number of ratings,
  • the average and count for the current version,
  • the current version number and price.

An app that a storefront doesn't return isn't sold there.

Chart positions. For each storefront that sells your apps, OpenConnect reads Apple's top-chart feeds and records where your apps appear:

  • Top Free, Top Paid and Top Grossing, as chosen in Settings > Sync > Charts to check for rankings. Top Free and Top Grossing are on by default.
  • In each app's own category, and, with Also check overall (all-category) charts on, in the overall chart too.

To keep the check quick, charts an app can't be on are skipped: free apps aren't looked for in Top Paid, paid apps aren't looked for in Top Free, and, once sales reports have synced, Top Grossing is only checked in storefronts where the app has earned proceeds in the last 30 days.

The job saves one snapshot of ratings and chart positions per day. Running it again on the same day replaces that day's snapshot.

Running a Check

The check runs on its own every 24 hours by default. To run it now, click Check now in the Ratings & Rankings section, or Run now on the Ratings & Rankings card in the sync dialog. A full check takes about a minute.

Apple limits how fast these feeds can be read. OpenConnect slows down when Apple pushes back, and storefronts or charts that still fail are listed in the sync dialog and retried on the next run.

The Ratings & Rankings Section

The section's description shows when ratings and charts were last checked. At the top:

  • Average rating, weighted by the number of ratings in each storefront.
  • Total ratings across all storefronts.
  • Available in: how many storefronts sell your app.
  • Charting in: how many storefronts have it in a checked chart.
  • Best position: the best position in any chart, in any country.
  • Ratings over time: a small chart of your total ratings at each check.

Below is a table of storefronts. Filter it with Available, Rated, Ranked or All 175, and search with Find country. Storefronts that don't sell the app are dimmed. Columns shows or hides:

ColumnContent
RatingAverage rating in that storefront.
RatingsNumber of ratings.
Current VersionAverage rating for the current version.
Top Free, Top Paid, Top GrossingBest position in that chart, in the app's category and overall. Top Paid is hidden by default.

With All Apps selected, each storefront shows your best position across all apps and the ratings of all apps combined.
