Studio Editor
The editor works like a design tool. The canvas fills the window, with floating panels over it:
- Layers on the left: your apps, and every set and slide of the current app. Click one to jump to it.
- The toolbar on top: device tabs, Product page, the language picker, preview size and Export.
- The inspector on the right, with three tabs: Slide, Style and App.
Close a panel with its panel button, or hide and show all panels with ⌘/Ctrl + \. Interface size, at the bottom of the left panel, scales panels and canvas together: Auto, 100%, 125%, 150% or 175%. Auto picks 150% on a 4K screen without display scaling and 100% where the system already scales. The sun, moon and monitor buttons next to it switch the editor between Light, Dark and Match system; your slides aren't affected.
Apps
Each app has its own icon, name, style, slides and remembered details. Click New app in the left panel, enter a name, pick a starting style and click Create app. To delete the selected app and all its screenshots, click the trash icon next to it.
Slides
A slide holds a headline, an optional subtitle, one screenshot per device, and which screen of your app it shows. How it looks comes from the app's style.
Adding Screenshots
- Drop images anywhere on the canvas. Each one fills the next slide that has no screenshot for that device, or creates a new slide.
- Drop an image on a slide to replace that slide's screenshot.
- Paste with ⌘V. With a slide selected, the image replaces its screenshot; otherwise it's added like a drop.
- Use Add screenshots or Blank slide on the tile after the last slide.
The device is detected from the image's pixel size. Simulator screenshots match App Store sizes exactly; other images are matched by shape (tall images to iPhone, wider portrait images to iPad, landscape images to Mac). Images that don't match are skipped with a message. PNG, JPEG, WebP and HEIC are accepted.
Because each image fills the first slide missing that device's screenshot, dropping five iPad screenshots onto an app with five iPhone slides pairs them up slide by slide.
Editing a Slide
Click a slide, then use the Slide tab:
- Headline: wrap words in
*asterisks*to color them with the highlight color. Press Return for a new line. - Subtitle: optional.
- Hero slide: turns on the hero design for this slide: a badge (rating, downloads or custom text), your app icon and name, and a leaning device. The Hero design settings are shared by every hero slide.
- Screenshot: the current device's screenshot with its size and where it came from (for example "Captured from iPhone 18 Pro"). Replace or remove it.
- Callout: drag a box on the screenshot to lift that part out, drawn larger with a shadow. Each device has its own callout.
- Stickers: add emoji and hand-drawn doodles. See Stickers.
- Screen: Screen shown (for example "Stats tab") and How to get there, so you or Claude can capture it again later.
- Style for this slide: change any style setting for this slide only. See Per-Slide Overrides.
Use the buttons at the top of the tab to duplicate or delete the slide. Problems with the words, such as a price or a URL, are listed under the headline. See Guideline Checks.
Arranging and Viewing
- Drag a slide to reorder it.
- Use ← and → to move the selection.
- Double-click a slide, or click the expand button that appears on hover, to see it full screen. ← and → step through slides and Esc closes.
- The preview size slider in the toolbar sets how large slides appear.
The first three slides of each device show a magnifying-glass badge: they can appear in App Store search results, so put your strongest screens there.
Devices
The device tabs switch between iPhone, iPhone Duo, iPad and Mac. Slides share their words across devices, and each device has its own screenshot. Click a greyed-out device to add it to the app. The toolbar shows how many of the 10 allowed screenshots the current device has.
Which devices an app has, the size you design at, and the sizes you export are on the App tab. See Exporting.
Screenshot Sets
Sets let you keep your Primary screenshots and try alternatives next to them. Each set has its own slides, style and product page assets. The app's name, icon, devices, sizes, languages and profile are shared.
Every set is a row on the canvas. Click a slide in a row to work on that set; the Slide and Style tabs then change only that set. Each row's header lets you:
- rename the set,
- Duplicate it (copy its slides and style into a new set),
- Make primary (swap it with the current primary), or
- delete it.
Below the rows, New set from "…" copies the selected set and Blank set starts an empty one. Export uses the selected set, and the zip is named after it.
The App Tab
- App: the icon (Add icon or Replace icon), Name and Subtitle.
- Languages: see Languages.
- Devices and sizes: turn devices on and off, choose each device's Design size, and tick the Export sizes.
- Profile: what Claude and future you need to remember about the app: Project folder, Bundle ID, App Store link, Category, What it does, Who it's for, Keywords, Brand colors, Screens to capture and Notes. Setting Project folder lets
appshotfind the app from inside your repository.
Live Updates
Changes save automatically. When Claude or the CLI changes an app, the editor updates on its own, so you can watch slides appear as Claude works.
