Timeline

The Timeline (shown as Chronology at the top of the page) lists every event on Sacred Wiki in date order, as one line from top to bottom. It starts with the days of Creation and runs through the Old and New Testaments into church history: the councils of Nicaea and Chalcedon, the Great Schism, the Reformation, the King James Bible and the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Reading an event

Each event shows:

  • its title and date. Dates follow the source, so some are years ("313 AD"), some are ranges ("c. 46–57 AD") and some cite Scripture ("Acts 13–21").
  • a short description.
  • a category tag, such as creation, covenant, miracle, battle, council or reformation.
  • up to three linked people, places or items. Select one to open its Wiki article.

Select an event to open its details. The detail panel shows the full description and every person, place and item involved under Related Entities. Select one to open its article, or select ✕ or click outside the panel to close it.

Tradition labels

Some church-history events carry a tradition label:

LabelMeaning
CatholicAn event in Catholic church history, such as the Council of Trent or the Great Schism.
LutheranAn event in Lutheran history, such as Luther posting the 95 Theses or the Augsburg Confession.

Four early events count as shared history and carry both labels: the Martyrdom of Peter and Paul, the Edict of Milan, the Council of Nicaea and the Council of Chalcedon.

Events from the biblical narrative have no tradition label. Neither do later events treated as common to all Christians, such as the printing of Tyndale's New Testament, the King James Bible and the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls.

Jump to an event

When you select an event from a Wiki article or from the Map, the Timeline opens, scrolls to that event and highlights it. The address in your browser points to that event, so you can share it.
