Studio Styling

Everything visual lives on the Style tab and applies to every slide of the app, on every device: iPhone, iPhone Duo, iPad and Mac. Sizes are relative to each canvas, so one design adapts to each device. A slide can still change any setting for itself (see Per-Slide Overrides).

Most settings have a reset arrow (↺) that appears once you change them. Every color field has an eyedropper button, Pick a color from the screen.

Theme

A theme sets colors and type in one click. Your layout, alignment, screenshot size and position, and background photos stay as they are.

ThemeLook
Neutral (default)Near-black with a light alternate.
ZincDark zinc gray with a light alternate.
Blue, Green, Rose, Orange, Violet, YellowA solid color with a pale alternate, based on the shadcn/ui palette.
ForestDeep green glow and cream, alternating every other slide.

Layout

  • Arrangement: Text on top (headline above, screenshot running off the bottom), Text below (screenshot above, headline below) or Side by side (headline left, screenshot right; best for Mac and landscape iPad).
  • Text alignment: Left or Center.
  • Screenshot size: 50% to 150% of the default.
  • Screenshot position: move the screenshot up or down.
  • Text position: move the headline up or down without moving the screenshot.

Colors

  • Background: Solid, Gradient (two colors and an angle), Glow (a radial gradient), Mesh (soft blobs of three colors), Photo (your own image, with Darken) or Frosted (the slide's own screenshot, blurred).
  • Headline, Highlight (the color of *highlighted* words) and Subtitle colors.
  • Alternate colors: use a second color scheme on every other slide. The Colors section then splits into Colors — odd slides and Colors — even slides.

Type

  • Typeface: Geist, Inter, Outfit, Plus Jakarta Sans, DM Sans, Manrope, Sora, Urbanist, Space Grotesk, Fraunces, Poppins, Figtree, Onest, Lexend, Rubik, Nunito, Fredoka, Bricolage Grotesque, Unbounded, Playfair Display, DM Serif Display, Instrument Serif, Bebas Neue, Caveat (handwritten) or SF Pro (the system font). All except SF Pro are bundled, so the editor and the export match even offline.
  • Weight, Headline size, Subtitle size, Letter spacing and Line height.

Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Thai and Hindi text is drawn with bundled Noto fonts. See Languages.

Headline Marks

Draw attention to the *highlighted* words in each headline. Mark can be:

  • Underline, Double underline or Strike, drawn straight from the baseline.
  • Circle, Box, Brackets or Squiggle, hand-drawn.
  • Marker, a highlighter stroke behind the words, with its own Opacity, Height, Position, Round ends, Tilt, Overhang and Brush edges.

The other marks have Thickness, a gap or overhang, and Sketchiness. Marks use the highlight color unless you set a Mark color.

Screenshot Frame

Frame is either:

  • Outline: the rounded screenshot with a Stroke color, Stroke width and Corner radius.
  • Device: a drawn iPhone, iPad or Mac around the screenshot, in Black, Silver, Natural, Desert or Blue, or any Device color.

Shadow applies to both.

Callouts

A callout lifts part of a screenshot out, larger and with a shadow. You draw it per slide (see Editing a Slide); here you set how every callout looks: Size, Shadow and Corner radius.

Background Effects

  • Panorama: one background running across every slide, so swiping through the set reads as one image. It uses the main colors' background.
  • Texture: Grain, Dots, Grid or Lines, with Texture strength and Spacing.
  • Vignette: darkens the edges.
  • Glow behind screenshot: with Glow size and Glow color.

Decorations

Generated Shapes in your colors: Blobs, Waves, Rings, Sparkles, Confetti or Bokeh, with Amount, Size, Opacity and Shape color. Click Shuffle for a new arrangement. With Panorama on, decorations flow across slides.

Stickers

Stickers are placed per slide, from the Slide tab. Click the add button to open the picker:

  • Emoji: about 1,600 emoji from Microsoft's Fluent Emoji, in 3D, Color or Flat looks. Search by word (fire, rocket, mic…). Apple appears as a fourth look once you've added an emoji font (see Apple Emoji).
  • Doodles: 21 hand-drawn shapes: arrows, underline, squiggle, circle, stars, sparkle, burst, hearts, spiral, check, cross, exclaim, lightning, crown, scribble and bracket.

Drag a sticker on the slide preview to move it. For the selected sticker you can change its Look, Size, Rotation, Opacity and Color (doodles), Send behind or Bring in front of the screenshot, flip it, duplicate it or remove it.

The Stickers section on the Style tab sets one Sticker shadow for all of them.

Apple Emoji

Apple's emoji artwork can't be included with OpenConnect, but you can use your own copy:

  1. Copy /System/Library/Fonts/Apple Color Emoji.ttc from a Mac into ./data/studio/fonts, owned by user ID 1001 like the rest of ./data.
  2. Restart the studio with docker compose restart studio.

The studio cuts each emoji out of the font once. An Apple look then appears next to 3D, Color and Flat in the sticker picker. Any color emoji font in sbix or CBDT format works, as long as its file name contains "emoji". Apple's largest bitmaps are 160 pixels, so keep Apple emoji at moderate sizes (about 250 or less).

Hero Slides

Mark a slide as a Hero slide on its Slide tab, and the Hero design settings appear there. They're shared by every hero slide:

  • Badge: None, Rating, Downloads or Custom, with Badge text and Caption (for example "4.9 Stars" and "From 62k+ ratings"). Only show a rating or download count the App Store really shows.
  • Show the app icon and name.
  • Device tilt: −15° to 15°.

Per-Slide Overrides

Style for this slide, on the Slide tab, has the same controls as the Style tab. A change there applies to that slide only, and the section shows how many settings it changes. Use ↺ next to a setting to go back to the app style for it, or Revert all to drop every override.
