First-time walkthrough
New accounts get a short walkthrough. It takes under a minute:
- Welcome: the basics of the game.
- Your name in Rankings: choose Show my name or Hide my name on the public Rankings. You can change it later in Settings.
- Controls: set your mouse sensitivity and see the main keys. On a phone or tablet, it explains the touch controls instead.
- Ready: choose Play now to jump into a match, or Look around first to go to the menu.
The menu
| Tab | What's there |
|---|---|
| Play | Join a match, start Zombies or Outbreak, open the Firing Range, and manage friends and your party |
| Loadout | Your five classes, the gunsmith and weapon camos. See Weapons. |
| Operators | Your soldier's look for each team, and skins. See Progression. |
| Career | Your rank, stats, weapon progress, medals, achievements, match history and account. |
| Rankings | The top 50 players. See Progression. |
| Settings | Controls, video, audio and privacy. See Settings. |
The top bar also has Messages, Mail and Redeem code. See Chat, Social & Rules.
Join a match
On the Play tab, pick Multiplayer, Zombies or Range.
Multiplayer:
- Quick Play joins the busiest open match of any mode, on the closest server.
- Or choose a mode: Team Deathmatch, Free For All, Kill Confirmed, Gun Game, Infection or Last Life. You join the first room of that mode with space for you and your whole party. Each mode shows how many people are playing it.
Zombies: choose Zombies for co-op rounds with a squad of four, or Outbreak for the open world.
Range: opens your own private Firing Range.
See Game Modes for the rules of each mode.
Pick a server or room yourself
Salvo picks a server for you: official servers first, then the one with the lowest ping. There's no region setting.
To choose a room yourself, choose Show all lobbies. The list shows every room on every server, with:
- The server's name, region and your ping to it.
- Official · ranked or Community · unranked. Only official servers save your XP and progress.
- Each room's mode, map and players, and Join, or Full if there's no space.
Hardcore rooms show an HC badge.
The lobby
You join a room's lobby before each match. Your soldier stands in a hangar with your team or squad around you.
- Top left: ‹ Leave match and this match's three challenges. Finishing one during the match pays bonus XP. See Progression.
- Right: every player in the room, including bots, with their ranks and who's ready. Click a name to add them as a friend, invite them to your party, mute them or report them.
- Map vote: vote for one of two maps or Random. See Maps.
- Ready up to say you're ready. In Team Deathmatch and Kill Confirmed you can also Switch team.
When the match starts:
- On your own with bots: the match starts when you ready up.
- With two or more people: a 45-second timer runs. The match starts when it runs out, or as soon as everyone is ready.
- Zombies: the match starts when everyone is ready. See Zombies.
The winning map loads, everyone spawns frozen for an 8-second countdown, then the match goes live.
Joining a match in progress
If the room's match is already under way, you see the live score and time left. Pick a Class and choose Deploy when you're ready. Every kill counts toward your rank.
During a match
- Press Tab to see the scoreboard.
- Press Esc for the menu. It has Resume, Switch team (in team modes), Leave match, and tabs for Loadout, Players and Settings. The game keeps running while the menu is open.
- Change your class from the Loadout tab. The change applies the next time you spawn.
See Controls for every key, and The HUD for what's on screen.
After a match
The results screen has two steps:
- Rewards: your XP for the match line by line, your rank bar, medals and anything you unlocked.
- Scoreboard: the full results, with the match MVP.
After 15 seconds, the room goes back to its lobby to vote on the next map. Choose Back to menu to leave.
The HUD
| Element | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Score (top) | Your side's score against theirs, the time left and the goal. In Free For All it shows you against the leader. |
| Radar (top left) | Teammates as arrows, and red dots where enemies fire unsuppressed shots, for 2.5 seconds. Forward is always up. |
| Health | Your health. It regenerates 5 seconds after your last hit. |
| Stamina and Weight | Your sprint stamina and the weight of the weapon in your hand. |
| Ammo | Rounds in the magazine and spare, your other weapon and your grenades. |
| Crosshair | Spreads with your real accuracy. |
| Hit markers | A mark when you hit, a different one for a headshot or kill, and optional damage numbers. |
| Kill feed | The last 5 kills. |
| Rewards | Score for kills, assists and medals. |
| Ping | Your connection: green up to 80 ms, yellow up to 130 ms, orange up to 200 ms, red above. |
Teammates' names always show above them. Enemies' names only show when they're under your crosshair.
Hardcore hides most of the HUD. See Hardcore.
Scoreboard
Hold Tab to see the scoreboard: score, kills, deaths, assists and ping for each player, split by team in team modes. Gun Game adds each player's gun on the ladder, and Last Life adds lives left. In Zombies it shows points, kills, downs and revives. This match's challenges and your progress are shown underneath.
Play with friends
Add friends and start a party from the Play tab. A party holds up to four. The leader picks the match and everyone follows, on the same team. See Chat, Social & Rules.
Next steps
- Set up your classes in Loadout. See Weapons.
