Photos, Videos & Documents

The Media tab holds your photos, videos and files: PDFs, text, Office and Pages documents, archives and anything else you import. Each item is encrypted on your device before it's saved. Its name, dates and thumbnail are encrypted too.

Add items

Tap + in the top-right corner of Media:

Option	What it does
Take Photo or Video	Opens the camera. Photos and videos go straight into the vault and never reach your photo library or iCloud Photos.
Scan Document	Opens the iOS document scanner. The pages are saved straight into the vault as one encrypted PDF, named with the date and time. Nothing is saved to Photos or Files. Not available on devices without a camera.
Choose from Photos	Imports photos and videos from your library. Live Photos keep their motion.
Import from Files	Imports any file from the Files app, such as PDFs and documents.
New Folder	Creates a folder here. See Folders.

A banner at the bottom shows Encrypting 1 of 5 and so on while items are added. Items are added to the folder you're in.

Stillock skips a file that's already in the vault and tells you how many were skipped. It compares the files themselves on your device, not their names.

Importing makes an encrypted copy. The original stays in Photos or Files unless you remove it.

Remove originals from Photos

To delete photos and videos from your library after you import them, turn on Remove Originals from Photos in Settings › Privacy. It's off by default.

After an import from Choose from Photos, iOS asks you to allow Stillock access to your library and to confirm the deletion. Stillock keeps some originals on purpose:

• Edited photos and videos. Only the edited version is imported, so deleting it would lose the unedited original.
• Live Photos that came across without their motion.

Deleted originals go to Recently Deleted in the Photos app for 30 days. Empty it there to remove them completely. Files imported from the Files app are never removed.

View items

Tap a photo or video to open it full screen. Swipe to move between items. Pinch or double-tap to zoom. Tap once to show or hide the controls.

The bar at the bottom has Save to Device, Favorite, Move, Info and Delete. Info shows the name, folder, type, dates, dimensions, length and size.

• Live Photos: tap LIVE, or touch and hold the photo, to play the motion.
• Videos play inside Stillock. They're decrypted as they play and never written to storage unencrypted. Stillock doesn't send video to AirPlay.

Documents

Tap a document to open it. PDFs and text files are shown straight from memory. Other formats, such as Word, Excel or Pages files, open in Quick Look, which needs a temporary decrypted copy. That copy is deleted when you close the document, and again when Stillock locks.

The More menu has Save to Files, Move, Info and Delete.

Organize the library

Tap the filter button next to +:

Select	Select several items and folders
Find Duplicates	Finds identical copies. See below.

Pinch the grid to show more or fewer items per row.

Touch and hold an item for Favorite, Move, Save to Device and Delete.

Select several items

1. Tap the filter button, then Select.
2. Tap items and folders, or tap Select All.
3. Use the bar at the bottom: Save to Device, Move or Delete.
4. Tap Done.

Find duplicates

Find Duplicates is in the filter menu at the top level of Media. It groups items whose files are identical. Items imported before this check existed are decrypted and checked once on your device.

• Tap Keep One on a group to keep its first item and move the others to Recently Deleted.
• Tap Clean Up to do that for every group.

Stillock keeps a Live Photo over a still-only copy, and otherwise the oldest. You can restore the others from Recently Deleted for 30 days.

Save items to your device

Stillock has no share button. To take something out of the vault:

1. Choose Save to Device from an item's menu, the viewer, or the selection bar.
2. Choose Save to Photos (photos and videos only) or Save to Files, then pick a folder.

Saved copies are outside Stillock and aren't encrypted. Live Photos are saved with their motion. The decrypted copy Stillock makes for saving is deleted once it's handed over.

Delete items

Deleted items move to Recently Deleted for 30 days. With iCloud Sync on, they're deleted on all your devices.

TIP

Screenshots you take while Stillock is open are saved unencrypted to Photos. Stillock shows a reminder when it notices one.
