Privacy & Data

Fen has no account, no ads, no analytics and no crash reporting. It never connects to your bank. Your financial data lives on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud storage. Odd Omens has no access to it.

What Fen stores and where

In Fen's database (on your device, synced with iCloud)

  • Wallets, including the business details you enter (business name, EIN, FinCel number, business structure).
  • Expenses and revenue entries.
  • Subscriptions.
  • Saved cards: card name, cardholder name, issuer, last four digits and expiration date. Fen never asks for or stores a full card number or security code.
  • Financial goals.
  • Net Worth assets and their value history.
  • Document Locker names, dates and small thumbnails.
  • Your display name and the date you started using Fen.

This database is stored on your device. If your device is signed in to iCloud, Fen syncs it to a private iCloud (CloudKit) database in your Apple Account so it appears on your other iPhone and iPad devices. Only you can read that database. Apple handles the sync, and Odd Omens can't see it. Fen checks for iCloud when it opens; if iCloud isn't available, it keeps everything on the device.

On this device only (not synced)

  • Full-size Document Locker images and receipt images. These are saved in Fen's storage on the device where you added them.
  • Debt Payoff Planner debts, extra payment and strategy.
  • Breakdown Calculator lines and saved templates.
  • Settings: currency symbol, menu choices and notification switches.
  • Invoice PDFs you create, which are written to Fen's storage when you share them.

These are included in your normal iPhone backups.

Receipt and document text recognition runs entirely on your device. Fen doesn't use AI services, exchange-rate services or any third-party SDKs.

Links in Fen, such as Documentation, Privacy Policy, Terms of Service and Rate Fen, open in your browser or the App Store. Email Support, Report an Issue and Request a Feature open your mail app; nothing is sent until you send the email yourself.

Permissions

PermissionUsed forWhen it's asked
NotificationsSubscription renewal and goal due-date reminders. These are scheduled on your device. The first time you open Fen.
CameraScanning receipts and documents. The first time you scan.

Import Photo in the Document Locker uses the iOS photo picker, so Fen sees only the photo you choose.

If you decline a permission, everything else in Fen still works. You can change either one later in the iOS Settings app under Fen.

Export your data

  • Transactions: open a wallet's Reporting screen and export a CSV. Do this for each wallet.
  • Documents: in the Document Locker, tap ... > Select Items, select documents and tap the share button.
  • Invoices: share the PDF from the Invoice Generator.

Fen doesn't have a full backup export or an import option.

Delete your data

  • Single items: long-press an expense, revenue entry, subscription, goal, card or document and tap Delete.
  • A wallet: deleting a wallet also deletes its expenses, revenue, subscriptions and linked assets. See Wallets.
  • Everything of one type: use Settings > Manage Data Deletion. Delete All Data removes wallets, subscriptions, revenue, expenses, cards and goals. See Settings.
  • Debts: tap the trash button on each debt in the Debt Payoff Planner.
  • Everything on this device: delete the Fen app. This removes all data stored on the device, including document images, debts and settings.

Deletions you make in Fen sync to your other devices through iCloud. Deleting the app doesn't delete the copy in your iCloud account, so if you want that gone too, delete your data inside Fen, while signed in to iCloud, before you delete the app.
