Privacy & Data

Salvo is an online game, so your account and progress are kept on Odd Omens' server. Salvo doesn't ask for your real name, email address or phone number, and it has no ads, analytics or tracking.

What Salvo stores on its server

All game data is stored on Odd Omens' server, hosted by OVHcloud in the United States (Virginia).

Nightly backups of all of the aboveThe 14 most recent are kept

If you're under 13, no account is created and nothing you entered is kept.

Who can see it

  • Other players see your username, rank, operator, in-game stats, chat and match scores. If you hide your name in Rankings, they see "Hidden Player" there instead. See Accounts.
  • Private messages are seen only by you and the person you message. Messages are kept on the server, so staff could read them if needed.
  • Moderators and admins see account details (including your birth month and year), reports, the chat attached to reports, fair-play flags and moderation history. Only admins see IP addresses.

Progress you can't lose

Every kill, assist and medal is written down on the game server as it happens. If you disconnect mid-match, what you earned is credited straight away, and your score comes back if you rejoin. If a server crashes or restarts, everyone's progress is credited when it starts again.

Progress only counts on official (ranked) servers. Community servers show "Unranked server — XP and progress are not saved here." at the end of a match. Nothing in the Firing Range is ever recorded.

What's stored in your browser

ItemWhat it's for
Cookie salvo_rtKeeps you signed in for up to 30 days. It's only sent to Salvo's sign-in address, and scripts can't read it. It's the only cookie Salvo uses.
Local storage: your settingsA copy of your settings. Graphics quality, render scale, frame rate limit, power saver, dynamic resolution and touch controls stay on this device only. Everything else is also saved to your account.
Local storage: conveniencesYour last-used Play and Rankings choices, achievements already announced, muted players (a copy of your account's list), whether you've seen graphics tips, and a few Outbreak screen choices
Session storageLets the game rejoin your room after it reloads for an update

None of this is used for tracking or advertising. Clearing your browser's site data signs you out and resets device-only settings.

What leaves your browser

Your browser only talks to Salvo's own servers: the website and account server at salvo.oddomens.com, and the game servers you play on. Salvo loads no third-party scripts, fonts, analytics or ads.

Odd Omens uses these services to run the game:

ServiceWhat it doesWhat it gets
OVHcloudHosts the server in the United States (Virginia)All game data, as listed above
CloudflareProvides DNS for the domainDNS lookups for the game's address
CrowdSecBlocks attacks on the serverThe IP address and kind of attack, only when an address attacks the server (for example, password guessing). Normal play doesn't trigger this.
SignalSends the game's owner private alerts about security eventsAlerts that can include a username, account number or IP address

Security alerts go out for things like account lockouts, sign-up floods, suspected aimbots, bans, accounts deleted for being under 13 and deleted accounts.

Permissions

Salvo asks for no browser permissions. When you click into the game, the browser locks the mouse pointer to the game window so you can aim. Press Esc to release it.

Export your data

  1. Go to Settings > Privacy.
  2. Under Your data, choose Download.

You get a JSON file named salvo-<username>-data.json with your account record (without your password hash), stats, match history, weapon and medal stats, unlocks, settings, friends, private messages, mail, sign-in sessions, IP addresses, Outbreak data, Map Maker drafts, reports you sent and reports about you (without who sent them), and moderation actions on your account. You can download it 3 times an hour.

Delete your data

  1. Go to Career > Account.
  2. Enter your password in Password to confirm deletion.
  3. Choose Delete account, then confirm.

Deletion is immediate. It removes your profile, birth month and year, agreement records, progress, stats, match history, items, friends, private messages, map drafts, Outbreak survivors and IP addresses.

A few things last longer:

  • Reports you sent or that were made about you stay, with the link to your account removed. The text and names in them stay.
  • Moderation records stay as long as needed to prevent ban evasion.
  • Server logs rotate out over a few days to a few weeks.
  • Backups rotate out after about two weeks.
  • Maps you made that were published in the game may stay.

If you can't sign in, email support@oddomens.com for help.

Policies

Salvo has its own policies, served on the game's site:
